A Letter from Principal Sikora and Father Thomas J. Behrend

Hello, Saint Rita Families!

We hope this letter finds you doing well and continuing to enjoy your summer. We wanted to update you on a few changes that have been made to our reopening plan. As noted in the original plan, we anticipate multiple adjustments as new information becomes available. Recommendations for a safe and responsible return to school are influenced by many factors, including guidelines from the Cuyahoga County Board of Health and updated guidance from state and county officials. Thank you for your flexibility and understanding.

Our plan was formulated with the guidance of medical professionals, advice and recommendations from the CDC and Ohio Board of Health, and the valued input of our Saint Rita families, staff, community members, and parish leaders. We continue to consider the unique and varying circumstances faced by our families, and we are working to make decisions based on the needs of our kids, as well as those of you who love them the most.

We are thankful to those of you who have supported our evolving plan, and are appreciative of the feedback and honest communication that we have received. This is a difficult and unprecedented time, and no singular plan is going to be suitable for each individual family. We are doing our best to meet the needs of those we are here to serve.

We will return to school full-time, five-days a week on a normal bell schedule. We have decided, upon careful consideration, to open our virtual schooling option to all Saint Rita families, despite pre-existing medical conditions. We want our families to feel safe, comfortable, and empowered to make the decisions that are best for their family. If virtual schooling is the option you think is best for your child, please let us know by Thursday, August 6th. As we are sure you realize, the drastic difference in setting will take additional planning. We ask that if you choose to utilize the virtual schooling option, you commit to doing so for a full 9-week grading period at a time.

School start dates:

  • On Wednesday, August 19th we will open for Primary students only. 1st to 3rd grade students will report for a full day. Kindergarten students will report for their assigned orientation time, which will be emailed to parents the week of August 10th. 4th to 8th grade students do not report this day.
  • On Thursday, August 20th we will open for Middle School students only. 4th to 8th grade students will report for a full day. Kindergarten to 3rd grade students do not report this day.
  • On Friday, August 21st all students in Kindergarten – 8th grade will attend full-time.
  • On Monday, August 24th the Saint Rita Virtual Academy will open for Kindergarten to 8th grade.
  • On Tuesday, September 1st the Little Falcon Learning Center will open for preschoolers.

Again, as information, data, research, and recommendations evolve, we must all keep in mind that our Catholic faith calls us to show empathy toward others. This is our chance to put into practice those principles that we hold dearly in our hearts. Please encourage your children to follow your lead and support our school policies. We have the best intentions for your children’s well-being, and your actions, reactions, and attitudes will be noticed and mirrored by them. We pray that throughout the course of this year, Saint Rita administrators, teachers, students, and families will continue to work together to send the same message. We are wearing our masks, staying in our own space, and following the rules and safety guidelines to protect those most vulnerable, just as Jesus teaches.

Our staff is looking forward to welcoming your children back to campus and into the arms of Jesus. We promise to provide rigorous coursework to guide their future success, and we will tend to their social and emotional needs. This year will look a little different, but together, we can create a safe and healthy educational environment that guides each child to a level of faith that is constantly active and open to growth.
